Frequent Questions Kids Have
HOW IS THE FOOD?
It is good – we promise! Not only are there many tasty and nutritious options at each meal, the dining hall is where camp spirit comes alive! The whole camp eats together in the dining hall for the three meals of the day. Hot meals are served buffet style with vegetarian and gluten-free options. At lunch and dinner, there is always a great salad bar with fresh veggies and other items, as well as an alternative bar and pasta bar. At breakfast, in addition to the hot options, there is a cold bar with cereals, yogurt, granola, etc. You can always find something to eat at each meal.
WHAT IF I DON’T KNOW ANYONE AT CAMP?
Don’t sweat it! There’s no reason to worry as you will make new friends among fellow campers and staff in a matter of seconds on the very first day of camp. From the moment you arrive in camp, you immediately start to become part of the Kweebec family. We have many years of experience in implementing strategies to integrate all of our campers – both new and old – right from the start.
WHO CHOOSES MY SCHEDULE?
We both do! What’s great about Kweebec is that you will have the opportunity to participate in over 50 different activities. The daily schedule is designed to give each camper a set of core activities that they will enjoy with their bunkmates, as well as the chance to select “choice periods” based on their own individual interests. It is a perfect balance of sports, arts, aquatics and much more!
WHAT IF I DON’T FEEL WELL?
If you’re not feeling well, our camp medical staff will take care of you and make you feel comfortable in our Health Center. They will give you the necessary care so that you can get back out with your bunkmates. Our medical staff is not only nice and experienced, but they are always available to tend to any sick campers or staff.
ARE THERE ANY TRIPS?
Of course! We go on a handful of exciting out-of-camp trips each summer. Shhh. They’re usually a surprise!
CAN I RECEIVE PACKAGES FROM HOME?
Yes. Packages are welcome as long as the items can fit in a large envelope. Think: water balloons, magazines, books, games etc. Food is not permitted – we don’t want any unwelcome critters in our bunks!
WHAT IF MY BIRTHDAY IS AT CAMP?
Birthdays are special at Kweebec. If you are lucky enough to celebrate a birthday while at camp, get ready for a memorable experience. Campers whose birthdays fall during their stay have an amazing day from start to finish.
CAN I BRING MY CELLPHONE TO CAMP?
No. And we don’t think you’ll miss it all that much! Our electronics policy at camp prohibits electronic devices with screens and/or internet capability. We strive to give you an
“unplugged” environment for the summer, and we believe this will allow you to fully experience camp free of the distractions of everyday life.
WHAT IF MY TOOTH FALLS OUT AT CAMP?
The tooth fairy will find you!
WHAT IF I FEEL HOMESICK?
This is totally normal! Everyone feels homesick at one time or another whether they are new or not. Missing home is a natural thing when you are away from your family. We are all here to help you. In fact, many of us have been homesick ourselves! The one thing to remember is that these feelings will almost certainly pass, and it only takes most campers a few days to feel right at home.
DO I HAVE TO BE A GOOD ATHLETE TO ATTEND CAMP?
Definitely not. Kweebec offers a wide variety of activities for all types of kids. If you don’t like competitive sports, that’s totally fine because there are dozens of other activities to choose from. And if you do enjoy competitive sports, Kweebec has plenty! There are also opportunities for campers to receive individualized sports instruction.
WHAT TIME DO I GO TO BED?
It depends on your age group. Each bunk has a specific, age-appropriate time for both curfew and lights out. Trust us – you’re going to need your rest!
DO I HAVE TO CLEAN UP MY BUNK?
This is always one of our most popular questions! Yes, each bunk has a ‘clean-up’ that takes place daily after breakfast. You get about 45 minutes to make your bed, tidy-up your clothes in your cubby, and help to clean the bunk. The cleanest boys & girls bunks each week are awarded a special prize!
