The athletic program at Camp Kweebec has had outstanding success for more than 75 years. Although there is no one “secret” to our success, we do have a few basic beliefs that we use as the foundation for all of our athletics. At Camp Kweebec we believe that children’s sports need to be fun. After all, that’s the reason we like to play them! At Kweebec we create a positive environment where children are put in situations to succeed and foster their self-confidence. It is not necessary to be the best athlete, and one of the keys to our success is our desire to help our campers improve and develop a basic joy for the game.
Every child at Kweebec plays at least half of every game, so that everybody on the team has the opportunity to improve. At Kweebec our focus has always been on the team getting better as a whole, as well as providing the ground work for each individual child to reach his or her full potential.
Each week, each age group receives instruction in basketball, soccer, softball, tennis, hockey, beach volleyball, and baseball (flag-football, hardball, golf, lacrosse and field hockey are all optional choices). These periods are incorporated in the weekly program and are lead by our qualified resident staff. Campers are always taught to try their hardest, and it is made clear that their efforts are more important than the result of the games. We split each division into 4 or 6 teams (depending on the division's size) for each of our "league" sports.

League games are played throughout the summer and are concluded with playoffs and finals for each sport. We also include games such as indoor soccer, roller hockey, flag football, kickball, BBS, handball, and gaga as team sports—emphasizing participation.
The final and most unique component that has made our athletic program great is our commitment to making the best instruction available for all of our campers. Over the years we have had countless professional instructors give guidance as well as one on one instruction to help teach the basic fundamentals that are so important for a child to learn when they begin playing a sport.
At Kweebec your child will have access to everyone from hall of fame athletes to current Collegiate Coaches and players in addition to our own in-house athletic staff, consisting of multiple athletic directors in both boys’ and girls’ camps, to give instruction in any sport that a child would like to improve in.
Kweebec’s access to many highly regarded members of the athletic community comes as a result of Uncle Les’ background in sports, and the friendship’s that he developed while coaching and officiating college and high school teams, as well as through his involvement in numerous sports camps and clinics.
Les initially learned basketball coaching while working with St. Joseph University’s legendary coach, Dr. Jack Ramsay. From this experience with Dr. Ramsay, Les moved into coaching at both the college and high school levels, winning two lacrosse state championships at Lower Merion High School, and serving as an assistant coach for highly successful lacrosse, basketball and baseball teams at the University of Pennsylvania, Valley Forge Military College, and St. Joseph's University.
Uncle Les’ continued relationships and friendships with some of the nation’s finest athletes and coaches bring an unprecedented number of talented individuals to Kweebec. Some of the more recent members of Camp Kweebec’s athletic staff include Philadelphia Flyers Bill Barber, Bob Kelley, Bernie Parent, John Leclair, and Rod Brind’amour, Basketball icons, Jameer Nelson, Speedy Morris, Fran Dunphy and Doug Overton, University of Pennsylvania football's Al Bagnoli, as well as excellent Soccer, Baseball and Lacrosse coaches and players.
