The Kweebec Program

Camp Kweebec

Kweebec’s performing, visual and fine art programs introduce our campers to a wide array of mediums. Our Arts Center provides opportunities for Kweebec campers to develop projects using a wide array of mediums, and to participate and experience the joy of creativity through a process-centered approach. Home to Arts-n-Crafts, Woodshop, Ceramics, Video, Photography, & Radio our Fine Arts Center is the busiest place in camp! Here are a few examples from last summer's program:

Arts-n-Crafts
Campers can look forward to painting canvas, jewelry making, needlework, using pastels & charcoal, watercolor, crafting, printing & tie dying, batik, candle making, enameling, beading, needlepoint, sewing, mosaic tiling, fabric art & silk screening, weaving lanyard and hemp, beading, sewing & weaving and making paper and soap from scratch.

Woodshop
Campers learn to build models and design, cut and build their own unique projects as well. A few examples of projects from last summer include: the building of airplanes, towers, boats, covered wagons, bird houses & toy cars. Additionally tables, earring holders, jewelry boxes, rockets, wall plaques and key holders with hooks were made from beginning to end with only the raw materials and instruction. Campers have the opportunity to work individually and in small groups.

Ceramics
Ceramics at Kweebec offers the opportunity to learn all different methods of working with clay. From pinch-pots and hand building to working with slabs of clay, Kweebecers learn not only the fundamentals of ceramics, but also how to throw pots on a wheel, fire, glaze and use a kiln. Last summer we specialized in making mugs, cups, dishes, name plaques, wind chimes, hanging mobiles, figurines, vases, name plaques & ceramic beads just to name a few. Come try your hand at one of our potter’s wheels!

Video and Photography
We use only the latest technology here! All photographs and video is filmed on our very own campgrounds. We try to include wildlife and nature photography as well as the videoing of other camp activities. Campers have the opportunity to compose and edit video, print digital photos and digitally draw on the computer to bring their illustrations to life.

Radio
At Kweebec we are fortunate enough to have our very own radio station! Campers learn to use to use radio equipment and broadcast a radio program. Be the disc jockey, program director, and voice of WKBC AM all at the same time!
